The two complainants also described a similar vehicle involved in both incidents, police said.
Around 3:15 p.m. a 13-year-old girl and a friend were walking near Cooper Avenue and Park Street when a dark brown or dark gray minivan pulled up. The minivan may have been a Toyota or Honda, police said.
A man in the vehicle asked the girl and her friend if they needed a ride. The two declined and ran to the girl's home.
The man who spoke to them is described as having an olive complexion and dark hair. He spoke un-accented English, the girl also said.
About a half-hour later, a 19-year-old Glen Ridge woman said a dark blue or black minivan stopped alongside her as she was walking on Inwood Avenue. The vehicle was reportedly operated by a heavyset male in his late 30s, possibly Hispanic, with a thick Spanish accent.
The male asked the woman for directions but she did not understand him, she told police. He then asked her if she needed a ride, and when she declined, he shook her hand and caressed it with his thumb. She pulled her hand away and walked off as the male repeatedly asked her if she needed a ride.
That vehicle, which appeared to be occupied only by the male, was last seen travelling west on Inwood, she also told police.
